If you want to keep your home safe and secure without having to install an expensive home security system, check out Canary.
Canary’s is a smart home security device that does away with wires and mounted sensors, instead it uses the Internet of Things, and is a connected device controlled through the owner’s mobile phone or tablet.
How Canary works
Rather than needing to place sensors throughout a home, buyers instead need only use the Canary device in the centre of the space. It might seem counter-intuitive, but according to Adam Sager, the co-founder of the company, this actually meets security needs better than covering every possible entrance to a home. Large houses with more than one floor or multiple entrances may require a few of the Canary home security devices, but most homes and apartments will be fine with only one.
One of the best parts of the system is that it can be easily utilised by renters. Select this affordable home security device and you can easily transport it to each residence you live in. Unlike traditional systems, Canary is not overly complicated or expensive. Instead, it provides an entire security system in one easy-to-use device that simply needs to be plugged in to work.
The security system features an HD Camera with night vision, a microphone, and passive infrared motion detection. In addition, Canary is equipped with a siren, a temperature sensor, an air-quality sensor, a humidity sensor, and a 3-axis accelerometer (to sense movement, speed and direction).
The device alerts users straight away if something doesn’t seem right in the home. This is not just about intruders, but also other potential issues such as gas leaks, flooding or fires. These can all be detected by Canary’s sensors.
Apart from tracking motion, temperature and air quality, Canary can also keep an eye on vibrations, sound and activity in the home to keep not only your house, but also you and your family safe and secure. Over time, the smart home security device also learns the rhythms of your home so that it can send smarter alerts to you. In addition, users can control things such as when the device is armed; which sensors are in use; and a variety of other features that can be turned on or off to suit individual needs.
In order to put Canary into production, the founders of the company raised funds on Indiegogo. While the target goal was USD$100,000, the campaign actually raised almost US$2 million within just two months in 2013.
